Event Schedule

Aiki-Shin 3 Month Grading (SAT 14th September 2013)

Members' news.

On Saturday the 14th September, we will be holding a CLUB grading at the Walton Sports Centre, Walton Hall Ave, (A580) Liverpool.

Firstly, apologies:

We were due to have a grading at the ‘Saturday club’ late September, and that in itself would have been later than planned. The delay is my fault, but as it was due to a family illness and then bereavement, I hope you will forgive me?  Sensei Lee.

Anyway, read on as the matter has now been put right, and the date for the next Saturday grading is now published.

It is not six weeks notice as it should be, but I will tell you NOW, that there is another grading at the ‘Thursday club’ mid November, so here is six weeks notice for that!

Are you wondering if you are ready to be graded? If you are in doubt, please ask one of the senior instructors, we will always be frank with you. As a guide I have shown the clubs MINIMUM grading time schedules below.

Gradings Schedule (Minimum)

To grade from/to

You must have trained regularly for:

Beginner to Red Belt

6 months

Red to Yellow

6 months

Yellow to Orange

6 months

Orange to Green

 9 months

Green to Purple

 12 months

Purple to Blue

12 months

Blue to Brown *

18 months

Brown to Black (1st Dan) *

2 years

* (advance notice required to senior instructor)

Please remember the above is not so much a rule, as a guideline. It will vary according to an individuals ability and quantity of training. Injuries, time off, infrequent training or disabilities can all cause the guidelines above to be incorrect.

Grading: Saturday 14th September 2013

On the date shown above, there will be a grading held at the Walton Sports Centre, Walton Hall Ave, (A580) Liverpool. The grading will be open to all Aiki-Shin members, but is not an open grading, so non members cannot be graded.

There are some important points for everyone to note:

1) The grading will begin as shown below.  There will be the usual break period at approx. half time.  Administration staff will be in the club 30 minutes early to allow students to complete signing on and pay fees etc early. This should ensure you can be on the mat ready to go on the dot!

Please, make sure you are early, and in the sports centre, changed, ready, and on the mat, ready to go for 5 minutes before kickoff! (i.e. 5 min early)

Remember, you can arrive up to 30 min early.

Grading Times

Sat 14th Sept   Start  11.00am      Finish 1.00pm

2) Payment must be made on the day, at the desk where you sign in. In the past, people have turned up with all sorts of excuses for non-payment, and some of them have still not paid years on. - THERE WILL BE NO EXCUSES ACCEPTED FOR NON-PAYMENT.

The Aiki-Shin is not a wealthy organisation, we cannot afford to be lax on money issues, so please, PAY ON THE DAY. If you cannot bring payment with you DO NOT TAKE THE GRADING. The fees are shown in the table below. You must not pay fees to anyone else, either before or after the event.

3) Please ensure you tell the Sensei at the desk which grade (belt) you intend to try for, if this is more than one grade above what you hold now, you will need special permission beforehand.  Each grade has a required pass level, and if you have not been putting in the hours, you cannot expect to pass.

4) YOU MUST BRING YOUR LICENCE WITH YOU ON THE DAY. IF YOU DO NOT BRING YOUR LICENCE WITH YOU, OR IT IS OUT OF DATE, YOU WILL NOT BE GRADED* .  Once again, there will be NO EXCEPTIONS. Hand your licence to the Sensei at the desk, who will keep it until the following week.

When you get your licence back it will have been endorsed by Master Johnson or Sensei Lee.

It should be noted, that as you move up through the grades, a ‘pass’ becomes progressively harder. Do not be disappointed if you do not move up to the next grade.  A tab, is an achievement to be proud of.

We believe that the Aiki-Shins standards are second to none. When you receive your next grade, you can be sure that you have been assessed honestly, and without favour. Such high ideals cannot be maintained by dishing out grades inappropriately.

Finally, let me close by telling you not to panic on the day. Just be yourself, and do your best, we are not looking for perfection, and we take into consideration your previous performances in the weeks beforehand.

GOOD LUCK.

Sensei Lee.

Is Your Licence Up To Date?

As a reminder for those of you who may have forgotten, your club subscription, which is payable annually, is your licence & insurance fee. This is very important, and you must not let it lapse. Some tables for your information are below:

*Different fees apply for Dan Grades

If you need to renew your licence - or apply for your first one, the procedure is the same; ask for an application form from me (Sensei Lee) on Saturday. PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR LICENCE IN EACH LESSON.

It is worth remembering that your licence must be fully up do date before you can take a grading.
